Walden NURS6053 Week 2 Assignment latest
As noted in the Learning Resources, systems theory provides a meaningful and beneficial means of examining challenges in healthcare organizations. To do this effectively, however, it is essential to assess all system components, as some may be relatively healthy while others are problematic.
For this Assignment, you apply systems theory to the examination of a problem in a department or a unit within a healthcare organization. (Note: You may use the same problem you identified for the Discussion as long as it meets the criteria for this assignment.)
Write a 3- to 5-page paper (page count does not include title and reference page) that addresses the following:
Based on this information, explain how you would address the problem as follows:
The Systems Theory Assignment is due by Day 7 of Week 2.
Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The Sample Paper provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements. All papers submitted must use this formatting.

INTRODUCTION
The adage “Health is Wealth” becomes more important as we become older. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), excellent health is based on three pillars: physical, mental, and social well-being (n.d.). Any modifications to any component can be pricey.
Increasing healthcare prices have had a negative impact on the proverb “health is wealth”; today, one needs a decent insurance plan or to be financially stable to be able to finance healthcare bills. The United States has one of the highest healthcare costs in the world, spending $3.6 trillion on healthcare in 2018, or an average of $11,000 per person, according to a report by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation (2020). The increasing healthcare costs have different impacts on a consumer and healthcare organization.
There are various factors involved that contribute to an increase in healthcare costs. Hence, it is essential to discuss increasing healthcare costs as a national health issue to improve the outcome.
At least 20 percent of household earnings spent on healthcare insurance, deductibles, and out-of- pocket costs (Lyford & Lash, 2019). Even though some employers provide health insurance, it is highly valued. In contrast, businesses like hospitals can profit from existing high healthcare prices (Gee, 2019).
Hospitals benefit more than other health care industries like the pharmaceutical companies because they “shifted their growth strategy in outpatient services” (Gee, 2019). This type of profit also increases competition with non-hospital-based practice, which leads to hospital raising their prices for patients (Gee, 2019). The hospital raising prices, which benefits the organization but not their consumers.
As an employee of a hospital in New York City, the increasing healthcare cost significantly impacts healthcare organizations. One of the highest healthcare costs is hospital-based care (Gee, 2019). According to the federal government, healthcare costs will grow more than 5.5 percent annually for the next decade (Gee, 2019). Mount Sinai is one of the largest healthcare organizations in New York City.
About 1.3 trillion dollars in the United States of America predicted in hospital spending (Gee, 2019); hence it is essential to understand how increasing healthcare costs has affected the organization. In 2017, the United States spent $10,739 on Medicare & Medicaid Services in the united states, which is very costly than other countries (Lyford & Lash, 2019). In 2018, Mount Sinai Hospital announced a rise in their income by 28.4 percent to $205.2 million due to increased outpatient services and lucrative inpatient cases (Lewis, 2018).
According to Gee (2019), the spending variation determines which geographic location is in a high-spending region or low-spending region. For example, the price of cesarean section delivery varies across the United States, ranging from $3,636 in Tennessee to $20,721 in the San Francisco area (Gee, 2019).
Unfortunately, most consumers are unaware of these charges because an insured consumer will have their insurance pay for a certain percentage, and the consumer pays the rest. For example, some factors that determine hospital prices depend on the hospital’s location and the type of insurance.
The type of insurance determines the healthcare costs; for example, a patient with private insurance is the source of most hospitals’ profit rather than public insurance, such as Medicaid or Medicare (Gee, 2019). The increasing healthcare cost positively impacts healthcare organizations such as hospitals, but it harms the consumers.
Many factors contribute to the rapid growth in healthcare costs, including “more people, an aging population, changes in disease prevalence or incidence, increases in how often people use health care services, and increases in the price and intensity of service” (IHME, 2017).
The two main factors are rising healthcare prices and an aging population. Healthcare prices are predicted to increase an annual rate of 2.5 percent, and expected that the individuals age 65 and over are going to increase by 16 million over the next decade (Peter G. Peterson Foundation, 2019). These factors can lead to America in a healthcare cost crisis.

Healthcare organizations are continuously immersed in change from the emergence of new policies to promote quality care and improve patient safety to keeping pace with the rapid growth in knowledge and best practices. Establishing a solid framework for planning and implementing change is a wise move, as it provides a foundation for the extensive coordination needed to facilitate the transition successfully.
For this Assignment, you propose a change at the department or unit level and develop a plan for guiding the change effort.

Analysis Group Paper
This week you will begin a group paper you will develop over the next few weeks. By Day 3 of this week, you will be placed in a collaborative group and provided with a work area for your group (See the Groups area below Week 11 in the left-hand navigation bar. If you do not see your team area by the end of Day 3, contact your Instructor.)
Before you begin to work with your group, read the information below describing the paper. Then join your group, introduce yourself, and begin work on selecting a topic.
Within your group, select a topic relevant to interprofessional leadership and the healthcare field on which to focus your group paper. The following are some potential topics for your group to consider:
When your group has selected a topic, the group facilitator will submit the topic to the Instructor for approval on the Discussion Board in the Week 5 Group Project Topic Forum.
Research your topic using the Walden Library and other credible sources.
By Day 7 of Week 7
As a group, write a 3- to 5 (page count does not include title and reference page) page paper that includes the following:
Section 1: Introduction
Section 2: Significance of the topic (based on literature that speaks to the relevancy of the concept selected in terms of interprofessional leadership)
Section 3: Review of the literature related to the concept that the group selects (current best practices, positive or negative impact on leadership or health care organizations, etc.)
Section 4: Application to nursing (e.g., implications or consequences for nursing leaders)
Section 5: Conclusion
All group members are expected to collaborate fully on this project, and your group paper should demonstrate an original and thoughtful application of the ideas presented in the Learning Resources and the research literature.
Continue to work on the Leadership Concept Analysis Group Paper, which you began in Week 5, tying in communication. How does the communication information presented in this week’s Learning Resources relate to your selected concept? What insights have you gained this week that would inform how you communicate about this topic?
Note: For this project, all group members’ names should appear on the title page, and only the group facilitator should submit the final file. All students who are not the group facilitator will submit only a title page with their group member names on it.

Clearly, diagnosis is a critical aspect of healthcare. However, the ultimate purpose of a diagnosis is developing and applying a series of treatments or protocols. Isolated recognition of a health issue does little to resolve it.
In this module’s Discussion, you applied the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory to diagnose potential problems with the civility of your organization. In this Portfolio Assignment, you will continue to analyze the results and apply published research to the development of a proposed treatment for any issues uncovered by the assessment.
Select and review one or more of the following articles found in the Resources:
It is one of the most cliché of clichés, but it nevertheless rings true: The only constant is change. As a nursing professional, you are no doubt aware that success in the healthcare field requires the ability to adapt to change, as the pace of change in healthcare may be without rival.
As a professional, you will be called upon to share expertise, inform, educate, and advocate. Your efforts in these areas can help lead others through change. In this Assignment, you will propose a change within your organization and present a comprehensive plan to implement the change you propose.
This may be a change necessary to effectively address one or more of the issues you addressed in the Workplace Environment Assessment you submitted in Module 4. It may also be a change in response to something not addressed in your previous efforts. It may be beneficial to discuss your ideas with your organizational leadership and/or colleagues to help identify and vet these ideas.
