Introduction

Overcrowding in the emergency room is common across the entire healthcare world.  While unable to pinpoint an exact reason, many speculate it is from overuse for nonemergent issues (Keizer-Beache, & Guell, 2016).   The effects of overcrowding can cause detrimental effects such as medication errors and can increase mortality rates (George, & Evridiki, 2015) and can be viewed as a public health concern.  Developing a conceptual model to improve patient flow can help to reduce effects like increased wait times and length of stay (Jarvis, 2016).
