NRS-433V: Effects of type 2 diabetes in African American
Review the Topic Materials and the work completed in NRS-433V to formulate a PICOT statement for your capstone project.
A PICOT starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention should be an independent, specified nursing change intervention. The intervention cannot require a provider prescription. Include a comparison to a patient population not currently receiving the intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process.
Formulate a PICOT statement using the PICOT format provided in the assigned readings. The PICOT statement will provide a framework for your capstone project.
In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.
Make sure to address the following on the PICOT statement:

Description
Colleagues-
As you prepare for this week’s assignment, I wanted to frame the assignment a bit more and help you to see the steps to the final completed project.
In most things, when you identify a problem, you really want to understand the history of what has been tried, tested, or implemented, what has worked and what has not. The process helps you to frame how to approach your problem (learn from the past). As you have learned to this point in your academic journey, in the profession of nursing, evidence-based practice and research are key components in the effort. Peer-reviewed studies and articles provide important insight and establish practice through the establishment of trust in the source and information gathered for support. Organizations, like Center for Disease Control, Healthy People 2020, and American Heart Association, and other authoring agencies/organizations are sites to help us with facts, figures, or provide illustration of details, which may be guiding us, but they are not considered peer-reviewed articles. Please feel free to use these as needed, but do not count them as a peer-reviewed source.
Through this assignment, you really want to focus on the sources of information to develop your clinical problem and solution. This is a crucial first step to the next several weeks of this class and what will result in the completed capstone project. A great deal of emphasis on grading is placed on your peer-reviewed sources. Remember, what you have learned regarding the use of current literature in the program. Utilize GCU’s Library in finding sources, which are peer-reviewed. In addition, you can outreach directly to the school library/librarian if you need further assistance. Staff and faculty are present to support you and are experts in their field.
In addition, APA format is crucial. APA format helps to prevent perceptions of plagiarism, giving credit to those behind/ahead of you, but also really secures your audience (which may be internal and/or external stakeholders) to have buy-in to the ideas you are presenting. Further, the sources used in week two’s paper carry forward to future assignments for the class. Securing the sources in the assignment and correct notation now, aids you in future assignments. Please refer to the APA 6thedition manual to double check your APA elements, such as headers, reference pages, direct quotes, and/or clarify details for in-text citations.
Please know the ultimate goal is to help facilitate your success in the course and program. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out. I will do all that I can to guide you and support you. Your success is crucial and of the utmost importance to me!
Best Regards,
Heidi
