MIN 7500 MIN/7500 MIN7500 Week 1 Assignment 1 Discussion/Dq Case Study 1 -South University

Activity Introduction

Every act of ministry carries an implicit theological commitment that may or may not be expressed in the rationale for that ministry. Ministry may be understood to be God’s ministry of revelation and reconciliation through Christ’s Church. This case study corresponds to Anderson, The Soul of Ministry, Part I (chapters 1-4). It is designed to help the student learn how to bring his or her ministry under a theological critique for the purpose of creating a true order of ministry. There are seven critical case situations, one each for parts one through five, and two cases for part six.

Read the case for each part or sub-section prior to reading the corresponding chapters in the book. Make notes in preparation for answering the questions at the end of the case when the reading is completed. Use the answer sheets provided. For most responses, answers of 50 to 100 words will be sufficient; some responses will need to be a little longer though no answer needs to be more than 500 words long.

You may consult with classmates about the cases but the responses must be your own; collaborative work is not permitted for this assignment.

This casebook on theological reflection was designed for use with Ray S. Anderson’s 1979 book, Theological Foundations for Ministry. Please note: the reading assignments found in the casebook refer to this book. Dr. Anderson generally followed the structure of that earlier collection when he wrote The Soul of Ministry.

The chart below indicates the chapters from The Soul of Ministry which correspond to chapters in Theological Foundations for Ministry referred to in the casebook.
