Team B Welcome and Case Study

All right everyone…your teams are created.

If you receive this, you are on Team B

It is very important for you to work together to create the care plan for this patient and your final PowerPoint project. At the end of the course you will each fill out an evaluation that will indicate how much each team member contributed to the project. If a team member doesn’t contribute it will affect his or her grade. There is NO option to work in this course without being on a team.

If you decide to use chat room then you must save a record of each chat session. I expect that each of you will act professionally here and that conflict will be kept to a minimum. It seems that in each class, a degree of disagreement occurs.

I want you to choose a team leader to be the “traffic cop” and to collect and assemble your team’s work. That person will be “in charge” of being sure that the team is on track and working toward a final project. If anyone fails to contribute I expect the team leader to let me know at the end of the week.

Additionally…. only ONE team member needs to submit weekly team assignments on the behalf of the entire team. Be certain that you include the name of each team member that has contributed for the week. IF a team member fails to contribute…then do not include an asterisk by their name on the project report that week.

Several of your team’s members may not have any medical experience.  I tried to create each team so there are at least two students with experience in the healthcare profession.  I would expect that those with experience in medicine would guide those who do not.

Now….you will look at the patient’s problem, create a team of care providers who will take care of some aspect of his problem. Even though you may have no idea how to do the role of the medical professional you choose, do a little research. What does Physical Therapist do and where would one fit in with the amputee or the child who fell off the tractor? Then each week create a very brief summary of what you are doing for the patient and how you are contributing toward the final project.  It is not a good idea to choose more than one role per team member. More just creates more work. I am not as interested in  how well your “medical team” manages the patient as I am in how you work together as a team. You should communicate with your team at least 3-4 times a week. If you are having a problem with your part of the project , let the team know.

OK everyone….let’s go. As soon as you get your email, introduce yourselves to the other team members and choose your team leader.  TEAM LEADER…report to me  and let me know who you are and we will have a brief discussion each week.
