Centralization refers to the degree by which decision making is done by a single point in an organization . Top managers in this type of organization make all the decisions and lower – level managers carry out the needed orders that support those decisions . The role of technology in this organizational model would be related to effective and quick electronic communication . Communication between top managers and to all down line managers , needs to be delivered quickly and accurately .
Complexity is the degree of heterogeneity and concentration among environmental elements , and they are complex and diverse . For example , an oil company would need to invest in top of the line technology to be able to produce their product in a quick and efficient manner . Formalization is the degree by which jobs are standardized within an organization and refers to the extent in which an employee ‘s role is defined through formal documentation . For example , when there ‘s a job that ‘s highly formalized the employee has little to no autonomy versus a low formalization job , where employees have full autonomy .
