Assignment: Ethical decision-making as a director

Assume the role of the new director of a professional organization, a mental health clinic, or a private nonprofit research institution or a university program. Most of the staff/faculty have been part of the organization for years, and the atmosphere is very collegial. You, however, have heard, that shortcuts are being taken and potential ethical violations are not being addressed by colleagues. Now, you are preparing for your first meeting with the entire staff.

Your goal is to emphasize the need for ethical decision making and the importance of placing the clients’ or students’ needs and rights above those of the staff. Additionally, your PowerPoint presentation should emphasize the APA Ethics Code and the standards for resolving ethical violations. In your speaker notes, include examples of hypothetical violations. You must utilize and cite the Ethical Standards that you believe may be the subject of violation.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

Support your presentation with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)

Notes Length: 200-350 words for each slide

Week-2 Assignment Ethics Due January 08, 2017

An important question regarding the boundaries of competence is the extent of training required to learn a new skill. For example, Miller and Rose (2009) have concluded that research on training in motivational interviewing (MI) suggests that the day-to-day practice of providers typically does not substantially change after this brief exposure to MI.

For this assignment, begin by selecting a new technique such as motivational interviewing, and then locate and review a minimum of five articles, which discuss the length and intensity of training required to be effective and competent in your selected technique. In Annotated Bibliographic format, review, summarize, and evaluate the selected articles and their conclusions. Review the results, and then provide, in your own words, a 2 to 3-paragraph summary, including your recommendations. Be sure to cite the basis for your conclusions.

Length: Annotated Bibliography for the five articles and 2 to 3-paragraph summary, not including title and reference pages

Week-3 Assignment Ethics Due January 15, 2017

M. G. Leyland, PhD, retired from his community college psychology instructor position and has applied for the position of Director of Psychological Assessment at Nature’s High Institute in a rural part of his state. The position requires expertise in personality and neuropsychological assessment. Dr. Leyland completed training in the Comprehensive System (Rorschach) and the Luria Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery years ago. He has not been actively using either for the past 25 years. In his application, he accurately states that he was trained on both of those assessments.

Reviewing Standards on Competence and Advertising and Other Public Statements, present arguments for and against Dr. Leyland’s compliance with relevant standards. Be sure to include Standards 2.01, 2.02, and 5.01. In addition, focus on whether it is ethical for Dr. Leyland to even apply for this position, and whether it would be ethical to simply omit a discussion of his lack of current experience in assessment. Determine if there is any way that Dr. Leyland could ethically meet the criteria for this position. Then, explain your conclusion.

Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
