Children in early childhood are generally susceptible to accidents because they are extremely active and unaware of potential danger. If you cannot remember accidents from your own childhood, as a relative if he or she recalls any.

Alternatively, ask a relative or friend with children in this age group to tell you about his or her children’s accidents. Make a record of the accidents you sustained during childhood.  List broken bones, cuts requiring stitches, bicycle and/or automobile accidents, ingestion of poisons, falls, sprains, dislocations, etc.

Also recall or estimate the age of occurrence. Could any of these have been prevented? If so, describe some possible preventive measures. Can you suggest laws that are or might be (if passed) be particularly helpful? Write a 1 – 2 page summary of this information.  Be sure to relate your analysis to textbook content.

Discuss ways in which we use the alphabetic principle in our classrooms or daily lives.  Use the video for examples.
