ENGL 366 – Semester 382 – Assignment 1 – Lecturer: Filiz KALALI –
Deadline for Submission: Week 6 Thursday
OPTION 1
OBSERVING LANGUAGE PRODUCTION STAGES OF CHIDLREN – Chapter 1
Instructions:
1. Find 2 children of different ages (preferably between 1 and 5 years of age) whom you can observe.
2. Observe them for a duration of time which will be enough to capture videos of moments when children are speaking.
REMINDER: Try not to show the camera to the kids, as they might not prefer to speak.
(There is no MINIMUM duration to observe; the duration you need to observe them will change according to how long it will take you to collect satisfactory data from the child. Sometimes the child will not speak, so you will have to continue your observation.)
3. For each child, take note of as many utterances as possible, and what these utterances indicate regarding the child’s speech production stage.
Number of pages for your assignment is not a sign that the assignment will receive a good mark. Make sure you have adequate explanation with evidence regarding why the child is in a particular stage.
For the sections of your report and a sample format, see below. (If you need to insert additional sections to your report, you can do so)
It is not the number of pages which is important, but the way you have submitted evidence and explanation in you report.
4. Do not decorate your cover page. Make sure you write the necessary information.
*** Pay attention to language errors while writing!!
