Nursing Student:  Hello, Mr. Bell.  I’m Bettianne, and I’m a nursing student at St. John’s College.

Is it OK if I call you “Mr. Bell”?

Client:  Good Morning.  Yes, you can call me Mr. Bell.  Or Frank – that’s my first name.

Nursing Student:  OK, Frank.  It’s nice to meet you.  You can call me Bettianne.  I’ll be working

With your care team today until about 1:00pm.  I’m here to provide your

Nursing are and whatever else you might need today.  Is that OK?

Client:  Yes, that’s fine.  I might have a visitor this evening.

Nursing Student:  That sounds nice.  I will probably be gone by then, but is there anything that

I can help you with while I’m here?  Do you have any questions about your new

Medication?

Client:  Oh yeah!  I was going to talk to the doctor about that medication, but he already left.  I’d

Like to know what that medication is supposed to do.

Nursing Student:  I can help you with that.  I see that the breakfast trays just arrived – how about I

Meet you back in your room at about 9:15, and we can talk about your new

Medication.

After Breakfast – Back in patient’s room

Nursing Student:  Hey Frank – I found that information you wanted on your medication.  Before

We go on, I have to let you know that anything you tell me will be kept

Confidential between me and your treatment team.

Client:  OK.  Thanks.
