ORDER Assignment: Care of a Complex Patient

Task Description:

For this task you need to create a 15-minute narrated PowerPoint presentation[footnoteRef:1] [1: ]

1. Consider ONE patient with complex care needs that you have encountered whilst on placement.

2. You are required to describe the following in regard to your chosen patient:

a. The presenting complaint;

b. The medical and/or surgical and psychosocial history, including any comorbidities;

c. A brief description of the pathophysiology of the patient’s current condition/s, citing appropriate literature.

d. Critically evaluate the treatment plan for this patient, citing current clinical research, with a focus on the nursing interventions that were required.

e. Identify any interprofessional team members that were also involved in caring for this patient and how these team members influenced the patient’s outcomes.

f. Provide a brief reflection utilising ONE of the NMBA registered nurse standards that is relevant to the care of a complex care patient.

You will need to ensure that your narrated PowerPoint presentation aligns with best practice principles for presentations:

· Plan the number of slides so you can present within the allocated presentation time (15 minutes) – a rule of thumb is no more than one slide per minute

· Use readable font, in a size that can be easily read

· Use white space appropriately to avoid cluttered slides

· Have an appropriate level of detail (not too brief, not too detailed)

· Set-up appropriate animation and transition effects so they enhance (not detract from) your presentation.

Other Elements:

· You are encouraged to use the guidelines in the table below to plan and prepare your PowerPoint presentation file.

· Refer to the marking criteria when preparing your PowerPoint presentation file. This will assist you in calculating the weightings of the sections for your presentation.

· Ensure that you use scholarly literature[footnoteRef:2] (digitised readings, research articles, relevant Government reports and text books) that has been predominantly published within the last five years. [2: Scholarly or peer-reviewed journal articles are written by scholars or professionals who are experts in their fields, as opposed to literature such as magazine articles, which reflect the tastes of the general public and are often meant as entertainment.]

· Use academic language[footnoteRef:3] throughout, unless otherwise indicated. [3: Everyday language is predominantly subjective. It is mainly used to express opinions based on personal preference or belief rather than evidence. Written academic English is formal. It avoids colloquialisms and slang, which may be subject to local and social variations. Formal language is more precise and stable, and therefore more suitable for the expression of complex ideas and the development of reasoned argumentation.] Assignment: Care of a Complex Patient
