Hi class,

I attached my table below.  I found the first few databases along with the South University library search was most beneficial for my PICOT.  However, the Cochrane, TRIP, and Dynamed were not very much help for me.  I had a little bit of trouble navigating those as i am more familiar with the others so it may be i was not correctly utilizing those.

CINAHL Plus with full text

CINAHL is an SU subscription-only resource that offers full text access to 336 scholarly journals and indexes over 3,000 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. Indexed journals do not provide access to full-text. Just because it is indexed in does not mean the library has full-text access to the journal. SU can always request articles for students via Interlibrary Loan, but the service is not instantaneous

?      Look at the Major Subject Heading in the Full Record

?     Use the Limits Feature:

?     Example: Publication Type=Systematic Review

?     Try the CINAHL Heading search:

Keyword search: vancomycin and clinical decision support

Limits: 2014-2019, full text, academic journals

CINAHL Heading search: vancomycin and clinical decision support

I also did vancomycin monitoring and alert fatigue

Limits: 2014-2019

I found in this data base I was able to find far more results using the CINAHL heading feature.  I found a great article on recommended vancomyin monitoring with dosing (“Therapeuic monitoring..” 2014) has an entire chart of recommendations of monitoring of trough levels. When I changed the CINAHL heading search I found great article by Pereboom et al., (2019) that is about implementing a clinical decision support for pharmacist. I really liked there was so many articles that related to my topic, however there was also a lot of irrelevant articles I had to look through.

I like being able to select full text.

Cochrane Library

Cochrane Library provides access to the Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews. Full text of reviews are subscription only. Index summaries are a public resource. Indexed journals do not provide access to full-text. Just because it is indexed in does not mean the library has full-textaccess to the journal. SU can always request articles for students via Interlibrary Loan, but the service is not instantaneous

Keyword search:

Limits: 2009-2019

MESH search: led to no results

Limits: Meta Analysis

I found multiple articles on vancomycin, but no articles I felt relevant to my PICO.  I did find one article on alert fatigue with clinical decision support. Overall, I found much less than I had with the previous two databases. I had trouble with the MeSH terms, but it was very limiting with what you could input.  The articles I did find only were abstracts and did not have full text which was not helpful.
PubMed

PubMed is a free health science citation & abstracts index from the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Keyword serach:

I used the search terms like above, and then decided to do an additional search of clinical decision support and alert fatigue.

Limits: I did 5 years for the articles, meta analysis and systemic review.

I found the same articles as the CINAHL database with my same search terms, however with the additional search of clinical decision support and alert fatigue I found 74 additional articles. I found it was easy although it looked different from the other.  I was able to click 5 years and not set dates as well as choose the types of articles I wanted.

Keyword search: I used every combination of terms vancomycin monitoring, and dosing, clinical decision support, and alert fatigue. I could not find any articles. I did find a lot of information on vancomycin, but not monitoring. It was easy to search, but no articles resulted.
Trip Database

TRIP is a clinical search engine to locate publicly available clinical evidence.

·

Keyword search:

Vancomycin dosing, monitoring, clinical decision support

Limits: systemic review

I found many articles but they were not related to my PICO. The few articles I did find I would have to have the Trip PRO for access and I could not do advanced search without it either.

SU Library search

·

·      Library Search is setup just like an EBSCO

·      The Library even has a specialized PICOT search setup in Library Search—must go to Advance search to get to PICOT option

Keyword search:

Vancomycin dosing, monitoring, alert fatigue, clinical decision support

I used five years, peer reviewed articles.

I found a great many articles on my research topic including the ones I found in the other databases above. Kabbara, et al., I found to be very informative and have used it some of my previous research. (2018). I find this search is the easier for me, and always gives me the most results, however sometimes does not have the full text readily available.
