As a future advanced practice nurse, it is important that you are able to connect your classroom experience to your Practicum Experience. By applying the concepts you study in the classroom to clinical settings, you enhance your professional competency. Jean Watson Theory of Human Caring

Jean Watson Theory of Human Caring is the nursing theory the author selected to guide the author’s clinical practice. Nursing assumption believed that the core of nursing practice is holistic health care, which is same with Jean Watson theory of human caring according to Nursing Theory (2016). Furthermore, the nursing function described by Jean Watson’s theory of human caring entails similar mechanism of patient care, such as assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation according to Nursing Theory (2016). In addition, Nursing Theory (2016) explained that the fundamentals of Jean Watson theory of human caring include carative element, such as sentimental, mystical, and human care that are unified with clinical care; occasions of caring that is continuous; hence, allowing human connection between the patient and health care provider; a caring connection that transcend personal; hence allowing the patient and health care provider together seek for meaning and fullness. Therefore, the author’s responsibility as an advanced practice nurse in Jean Watson’s theory of human caring in relation to the author’s obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) patients at the clinical is to foster a relationship that accept, care, and relate with the author’s OBGYN patients unconditionally.

Goals and Objectives

1.The author will be competent in collecting patients’ OBGYN health history; completing, and documenting relevant physical examination of patients including all area of mental health evaluation.

2.The author will establish good rapport with patients and the preceptor that is trustworthy.

3.The author will provide holistic care based on evidence.

4.The author will deliver safe, quality care to patients based on women’s health clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice in collaboration with the author’s preceptor and other health care providers.

5.The author will show competency in the development of differential diagnosis as well as weigh the cost, risk and benefit associated with the correct diagnostic tools for screening and prevention after planning the diagnostic strategies with assistance from my preceptor.

6.The author will recognize, respect and value all patients and families health belief and cultural background, and I will endeavor to deliver holistic health care to all patients and families regardless of cultural difference.

7.The author will accept responsibility of all health decisions made by me at the clinical site with help from my preceptor (Population-Focused Nurse Practitioner Competencies, 2013).
